Gunnerside is on The Swale Trail cycling route. Bike hire at the Dales Bike Centre (and cakery), in Reeth.

This is prime walking country; The village is on the Coast to Coast route and The Pennine Way is very close. Gunnerside Gill walk starts in the village taking in ancient lead mining ruins, and walking through woods and past waterfalls.

The Tour de France came through Gunnerside in 2014 and there are wonderful road cycling and mountain biking routes throughout Swaledale.
